The cost of living continues to impact many people in Watford and demand for our advice service has risen in the last year. In 2024-25, Citizens Advice Watford helped nearly 10,000 people with 18,000 problems. 64% of these problems related to debt, money or benefits.

Job role

We are looking for a Generalist Adviser with welfare benefits expertise to provide high quality information, advice and support to Watford residents. You will provide both face to face and telephone advice on issues including benefits, budgeting advice and housing and refer into to specialist support as required.

Ideally you will have some experience of giving advice and working with vulnerable clients. We want people who are passionate about giving an effective service to those most in need. Demonstrating that you can engage skilfully with clients and have proven skills in working in a busy environment.

You will be a highly motivated and strong team player with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. Having the ability to understand complex information; have good numeracy skills and have effective oral and written communication skills.

There will be opportunities to progress within the organisation.

Job details

Salary: £24,900 – £28,200 – depending on experience

Hours: 30 hours a week (negotiable)

Contract: Fixed term 12 months

Annual Leave: 33 days annual leave (inc. 8 statutory bank holidays). Part time pro-rata

Location: Based in Watford Advice Centre and some hours at outreach locations

Office hours: Mon – Fri 9am – 5pm

Pension: 6% employer contribution
