Watford Borough Council

There are several benefits managed by Watford Borough Council which you may be able to apply for, including Council Tax Reduction, Housing Benefit and Discretionary Housing Payments. Find here details and eligibility criteria for these, as well as contact details for managing your claim.

Visit the Town Hall to use self-help computers, phones and tablets in reception to access support and council services.

New Hope

New Hope is a local charity providing accommodation and support to people who are homeless or vulnerably housed. Anybody sleeping rough should contact New Hope as soon as possible for help. New Hope also offer secure storage of important documents, shower facilities, food and advice.

Shelter

Shelter is a homelessness and housing advice charity. Their website and helpline covers a full range of housing issues, including: eviction, homelessness, repairs, tenancy deposits, social housing, and discrimination. Shelter also runs a Duty Adviser service, so if you have a court hearing for a housing issue, they may be able to assist you.

Herts Young Homeless

A free, confidential advice service for 16-24-year-olds who are homeless, experiencing housing difficulties or require general housing advice.  HYH can also give expert help with mental health issues and issues of drug and alcohol dependency.

YMCA

YMCA’s Watford Hostel offers a safe space to stay, and a temporary solution until people get back on their feet.  Access to the accommodation is through an application process and so is not available in emergency situations. Potential applicants should contact their housing team.
